“It is not the strongest
species that survive, nor the most intelligent ones, it’s those who are most
responsive to change.” Like the above quote rightly
said, the world is changing rapidly and if anyone wants to survive they need to
adapt to their peripheral situation because there are hundreds of people ready
to take your seat if you are not doing what it takes for survival. Talking about
India, who is well known in the world for population (2nd most
populated country), the above quote is Indians’ daily routine. Here people
struggle to earn their bread; battling for survival almost every day.
Population is curse or boon will get decided later but the competition it has
brought has to be dealt first.
Unemployment has one of its major root causes in population. In olden
days where applicants for any job vacancy were used to be very few and
sometimes just one; today we see queues of candidates waiting for job. May be in
olden days there was less population, less educated mass, lack of skilled labor
etc. So it was very easy to select the right person. But today even if you have
graduate degree still it is not sufficient to earn decent living. For a single
place there are thousands of deserving candidates standing in row; then how to
decide which one to be awarded the bread? Like the number of candidates
increased the selection process also took new form. In olden days where
interview used to be the only obstacle between candidates and job, now we have
series of obstacles like aptitude test, group discussion, debate, etc. but
think of those exams that get lac of applications every year. How they arrange
the first screening of such mass? Well some national level exams like UPSC,
CAT, GATE, defense sector, bank sector etc. arrange common test for first
eligibility test.
Competitive exams are basically designed to test the candidate for
his abilities and skills. This is very preliminary criteria to filter
candidates. In these exams candidates have to solve questions from diverse
field such as general knowledge, quantitative aptitude, vocabulary etc. and
that too in limited time. These exams test students for not only academic
skills but also their mental stability. As said before this is the first stage
of selection, students qualifying this stage will enter in next level of exam.
To speed up the whole process of examination results of first stage are
obviously expected at the earliest. On the contrary we see that many exams are
pen and paper based which invariably delays the results. In the digitized world where computer has
become one of the basic needs of human beings, we can use this resource to
solve the problem of such delays.
Competitive exams can be made online instead of pen and paper based.
Online exams generate results faster than any means. Quick analysis is the most
important advantage of online exams. There is no question of delays in results
as everything is machine based. Also it offers the high accuracy in results.
The evaluation system is computer based so there is very less chances of
mistakes. On other side the evaluator is a human being, and it is highly
impossible to get 100% accuracy in results from him; so there might be more or
less in results. And also in case of exams which covers large masses we cannot
neglect malpractices in evaluation. Actually online examinations are most
reliable and fair evaluators.
Digitization makes exam more at ease than ever. Students will have
to just click the right answer. In this way we can save the time for writing
and efforts of the students. Many a time it happens that student could solve
the entire paper but just because of lack of writing skill he gets less marks.
As some students are good at writing but they might not know much still could
score more marks than they deserve. Examination should be at same grounds for
everyone. This will not happen in case of online exam as only students’
knowledge will be tested rather than adding other factors to exam. The
pen-paper based exam makes the job tough for paper setters also. While paper
setting, they have to consider that whether paper can be written in given time
or not. This sometimes brings restrictions on covering the whole syllabus.
The pen paper based exams involves transportation of answer sheets
from one city to another. There are chances of mishandling of answer sheets and
malpractices. It is very delicate work involving secrecy of highest level. Online
exam firstly removes necessity of any resources in exam so no question of
answer sheet and its transportation. Once the student submits the paper, his
answer sheet is locked and can be accessed by authorized person only. All the
malpractices are automatically eradicated without any special action. In this case manpower is also required in
very less amount.
Competitive exams have centers usually in the metropolitan cities
and students from remote areas find it difficult to travel such long distances.Online exam makes it much easier to give exam from their own town that too
without any resources bringing all the students at the same level.
